Alabama’s annual conference, held during the Fall each year, brings together gifted/talented teachers and coordinators, classroom teachers, school administrators, parents, pre-service teachers, and college/university faculty to explore current issues in gifted education. Our conference brings nationally known leaders in the field of gifted education as well as faculty from Alabama’s college/university gifted programs, and Alabama’s gifted education teachers together to provide three days of professional development. Sessions include keynote speeches, one hour sessions on a variety of practical strategies for teachers and parents, and hands-on half-day workshops. Vendors offer a variety of materials and information for gifted educators and parents.

2017 AAGC Conference Scholarships
AAGC is now offering conference scholarships for first time attending gifted education teachers and also for parents of gifted students. A limited number of scholarships will be offered. Please see scholarship applications for details.

Workshop Wednesday Registration (Wednesday only, includes lunch): $125
One Day Registration (Thursday or Friday, no lunch): $100
Two Day Registration (Thursday and Friday, no lunch): $150
Three Day Registration (Wednesday–Friday, lunch on Wednesday only): $275

Session A: Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking: Administration and Scoring (TTCT)
This full-day workshop, taught by Dr. Patti Wood, will provide attendees with training on the administration and scoring of the TTCT. (80 seats available)
Session B: Talents Unlimited: Creating a Culture of Thinkers to Meet the Needs of All Learners
This full-day workshop will introduce attendees to the Talents Unlimited model and provide practice implementing the TU strategies. This workshop is taught by Kelly Lomax, International Director of Talents Unlimited. (30 seats available)
Session C: Maker Spaces
This full-day workshop, taught by Mandy Fox, will provide attendees with opportunities to learn about and experience Maker Spaces they can implement in their schools. (30 seats available)
Session D: Surviving Your First-Year as a Gifted Specialist
In this full-day workshop, Dr. Erinn Floyd and Traci Ingleright, will provide guidance to first-year gifted specialists as they begin their journey in “giftedland.” They will cover many topics that will help teachers new to the field become oriented and feel more confident in developing high level, challenging learning opportunities for their students. (30 seats available)
Session E: Zentangle
Debbie Dumais will conduct a ½ day beginner and a ½ day advanced workshop on how to Zentangle. (30 seats available per session)
Session F: New Trends in Technology for the Classroom
Join Dr. Shirley Farrell as she shares new and exciting technology ideas for classroom use. She will present the ½ day workshop as both morning and afternoon sessions. (30 seats available per session)
Session G: The Stock Market Game: Virtual Learning, Real Results
This ½ day workshop will introduce attendees to the exciting Stock Market Game, taught by Wanda McAbee from the Alabama Council on Economic Education. (30 seats available per session)
Session G: Muggins Math
In this ½ day workshop you will learn how to engage your students in hands-on math, taught by Sue Schuler. (30 seats available per session)

AAGC is making a paper version of the registration form available for school systems that require it for internal use. Please be aware this form is for processing within your school system only. AAGC will not accept paper forms (there is no one to enter the forms, which is quite time-consuming!). So once your school system has given you the go-ahead to register, it is up to you/ your system to complete online registration for all attendees. If your system requires an invoice from AAGC in order to process payment, a copy of the email registration confirmation for all registrants must accompany the purchase order. 2017 Key Note Speakers
Dina Brulles will be our keynote speaker on Thursday, October 19.
Dina Brulles, Ph.D., is the Director of Gifted Education at Paradise
Valley Unified School District in Phoenix, Arizona. There she has
developed a continuum of gifted education programs, preschool
through high school. The programs and services Dina oversees
incorporate innovative uses of technology, enfranchise
underrepresented populations and provide extensive professional
development opportunities. She is also the Gifted Program
Coordinator at Arizona State University.
Dr. Brulles co-authored the books, The Cluster Grouping Handbook: How To Challenge Gifted Students and Improve Achievement For All, Teaching Gifted Kids in Today’s Classrooms, and Helping All Gifted Children Learn, along with other publications and teacher training courses. Dina assists school districts in developing, supporting, and evaluating gifted programs with an emphasis on integrating current educational initiatives. Having implemented and supervised the Schoolwide Cluster Grouping Model, she has become a recognized expert in that practice. Message from Dr. Dina Brulles

focused on supporting school districts, educational conferences, and EdTech businesses. He is an award winning educator and best selling
author who has travelled the world promoting best practices in
education. He has been featured on CNN, Education Week, The New York
Times, and other media outlets. He has presented internationally at
conferences and worked closely with educators around the world to
support their educational goals. He is a Google Certified Educator,
Raspberry Pi Certified Educator, littleBits Educational
Ambassador and holds other certifications with other companies.
Nicholas authored the book, Guide to Makerspaces, and co-authored, Your Starter Classroom in the Cloud: Innovative Ideas for Higher Level Learning. He has presented on a variety of topics including Project Based Learning, 3D Design with Tinkercad, Digital Tools to Support Reading and Writing, Makerspaces, Genius Hour, Student Engagement, Cloud Based Tools, Google Apps for Education, and Workshop with Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
