WELCOME TO AAGC!

The mission of the Alabama Association for Gifted Children is to provide advocacy leadership, and support to assist educators, parents, and community partners in meeting the educational and affective needs of gifted children and youth in Alabama.

We're excited to share an update on the progress of the Education Trust Fund (ETF) budget. Yesterday, the House of Representatives successfully passed the budget, which has now moved forward to the Senate for consideration.

Let's take a look at the numbers:

In our current budget for 2024, we were allocated $10,350,000. This amount included $1,425,000 dedicated to the Gifted Students Program Grants.

Governor Ivey's proposed budget for 2025 stands at $11,350,000, which maintains the $1,425,000 for Gifted Students Program Grants. This reflects a notable increase of $1,000,000 compared to the previous year.

The House of Representatives has shown tremendous support by proposing a budget of $12,350,000 for 2025. This includes the same $1,425,000 for Gifted Students Program Grants, marking a significant increase of $2,000,000 from last year's allocation.

We extend our gratitude to the House of Representatives for their commitment to investing in education. Now, we urge you to reach out to your State Senator and advocate for further enhancement of the gifted education line item. Let's strive to 'top what the House has passed' and ensure adequate resources for nurturing the talents of gifted students in Alabama.

Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to promoting gifted education in Alabama. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our gifted students

Gifted advocacy takes a year-round effort.   We made great strides this last legislative year but we are far from the much needed funds to make full-funding a reality.  Share what is happening in your classroom on all your social media outlets.  Reach out to your elected officials.  Until gifted education is fully funded, we will continue striving for that goal!  Go here, to find out what you can do!

The Alabama Legislature are in session now.  Be sure to contact your elected officials in Montgomery.  They are the ones who decide on the education budget. We need everyone to continue to be a champion for our gifted students.  To let your elected officials know the importance of gifted education, go to our page at  https://alabamagifted.org/advocacy  Our gifted students deserve to learn something new every single day.
