As the year ends…

Greetings!

As another school year is nearing an end, I want to thank all of you who made it possible for gifted education to be a line item on the Alabama Education Trust Fund Budget.  This was not an easy feat in these hard economic times.  Please thank your children for helping to make this possible.  We read many touching letters that were sent to the legislators and our governor.  While we are a line item on the budget, we all know that the amount will be small when spread across the entire state.  We must not stop our quest for full funding of gifted education.

First, if you did write or contact your representatives or the governor in any way, please take the time to thank them for this milestone.  Then, do not give up on our mission.  Keep contacting your elected officials.  Invite them into your or your child’s gifted classroom to see why gifted education is important.  We need for every child in Alabama to receive the appropriate education they deserve, from kindergarten through grade 12.

I invite you to join our #gtala chat on Twitter this Thursday evening at 7:30 pm.  Also, circle your calendar for our conference this September at the McWane Science Center.  Friday is parent’s day and we have a special guest coming to speak to us that you will not want to miss.   Please follow us on Facebook on the AAGC group and Twitter at @aagc11.

Sincerely,

Audrey Fine, President

Alabama Association for Gifted Children
